The race started with Brobeck out front, but for the entire first heat there were six trucks within 25 ft of each other! There was 3 and 4 wide racing, and virtually no track calls! Amazing racing!
Heat 2 was almost as good. Brobeck was able to stretch out a small lead, (about a half lap), but again at the end, 2nd place through 6th were again only about 30 ft apart! The on track battles were terrific!
Hillman won by 20 ft over Bradley, Merriman by 40 ft over Cruthcfield. We have had tighter finishes, but never a more exciting one. Hillman came from 5th with 2 heats to go to pass Bradley in the last 15 secs of the final heat when Bradley's truck got real tight. Everyone was watching and holding their breath to see if he could catch him!
Crutchfield had 3rd, but Merriman was coming. I was watching the "lag behind" on the Trackmate screen as Merriman chased down Crutchfield, with 30 secs left in the heat, he was chopping off about .15 a lap. Then with only 14 secs left, trailing by about 20 ft, a 3 truck pileup happened right in front of Crutchfield letting Merriman by. It was setting up to be a very tight finish!
2nd race was the 4.5" FCR Retro Stock Cars. We had 16 entries, locked 7 in the A with qualifying, transferring 1 from the B.
