It was our first race at the New East Tenn Model Raceway, the competition was great, everyone had a awesome time, and we can't wait to race again!
We raced 4.5 inch FCR stock cars on the Kingleman with the winner to receive tickets to the Nationwide race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
We also had a few of our track sponsors step up and donate more tickets!! When it was all said and done, we gave away 4 pairs of tickets to the Food City 250!!
Our ticket sponsors were: Catch-22 Motorsports Central Tenn Raceway Browns Mill Auto Tech HRE
Other prizes incuded: Fastest lap on black lane: Free oil change & lube donated by Hayworth Tire & Auto Center, Johnson City, TN Fast lap of race: $10.00 donated by Double J's Raceway, White Pine, TN
Results: 1. Rick Crutchfield LaVergne, TN - 228 2. Chris Lowery Gray, TN - 222 3. Joe Matthews Morristown, TN - 217 4. Jamy Matthews White Pine, TN - 211 5. Robert Hoskins Bean Station, TN - 206 6. Mick Holtsclaw Limestone, TN - 199 7. Fred Heffinger Bristol, TN - 196 8. Rick Edens Church Hill, TN - 174
Chris & Rick were only 1 lap apart starting 7th heat, but Chris had some trouble and lost a few laps. Joe, Jamy, Mick and Robert were all within 2 laps of each other, Mick's chassis got bent bad in a crash exiting turn 3 that sent him to the pits for a minute or so , then Jamy stripped a gear & then had a controller issues costing him a few laps, Robert also stripped a gear and lost a few laps. This was Rick Edens first ever organized slot car race! He did a great job!!
Prize winners: Fast lap on black: Joe Matthews - 5.417 Fast lap of race: Joe Matthews - 5.350 (This will set the official track record for FCR stock cars)
Rick win the tickets with the win, but donated them back to the drawing! (Nice guy huh?) So we had drawings for tickets and the winners were:

We had a great time Saturday. East Tenn Model Raceway would like to thank everyone who came to race with us. We had a few guys that drove a long distance to compete for the big money. Bobby Robinson and Steve McBride drove over 7 hours!
In each division we qualified, locked in a few racers for the A main, then had a B main to compete for the transfer spots.
First up was the FCR race. Bobby Robinson, and James Merriman had never raced an FCR car. I loaned them both one so they could compete. James had some bad luck, but Bobby ran pretty well.
Two drivers from the B transfered to the A. For some extra incentive, Mick Holtsclaw from Catch-22 Motorsports donated a Snap-on Tools jacket ($120 value) for the winner of the B main! 4.5" FCR B Main Results: (2 mins)
1. Bobby Robinson - 151 (B main pole winner) (sets lap record for 2 min heat) 2. Rick Edens - 146 3. Robert Hoskins - 141 (Lost several laps due to gear) 4. Jeff Brobeck - 139 (Best Appearing) 5. Steven Bradburn - 123 6. Kenny Davidson - 112 (Stripped gear) 7. Barney Bradley - 94 (Chassis damage) 8. James Merriman - 89 (Fast lap - 5.530)
4.5" FCR NASCAR A main Results: (3 mins)
1. Rick Crutchfield - 239 - $200 (sets lap record for 3 min heat) 2. Joe Matthews - 233 - $50 (Fast lap - 5.359) 3. Mick Holtsclaw - 231 - $25 4. Fred Heffinger - 231 5. Bobby Robinson - 228 6. Rick Edens - 227 7. Mark Griffith - 227 8. Stan Doyle - 218 (Pole Winner - 5.338)
Rick Crutchfield breaks track record for most laps (3 min heat). Old record 222, was also held by Rick.
4" Flexi NASCAR also had enough entries for qualifying and 2 mains.
4" Flexi NASCAR B Main Results: (2 mins)
1. Roger Holtsclaw - 182 (sets lap record for 2 min heat) 2. Stan Doyle - 160 3. Mick Holtsclaw - 158 4. John Patterson - 135 The balance of the B main results were lost. Sorry.
4" Flexi NASCAR A Main Results: (3 mins)
1. Bobby Robinson - 279 - $200 (sets lap record for 3 min heat) 2. James Merriman - 278 -$50 (Fast lap - 4.255) 3. Rick Crutchfield- 274 -$25 (Pole Winner - 4.456) 4. Roger Holtsclaw - 268 (Lost last 28 secs of 6th heat due to broken guide, was in a great battle with ole' buddy Rick!) 5. Courtney Smith - 259 6. Steve McBride - 259 7. Doug Smith - 253 8. Stan Doyle - 49 (Chassis damage) (Best Appearing)
The Can-am race had 10 entires, so no qualifying was needed. We ran round robin.
Can-am Results: (3 mins)
1. James Merriman - 269 - $200 (Fast lap - 4.646) (this was first Can-Am race held, sets record for all categories) 2. Bobby Robinson - 267 - $50 3. Roger Holtsclaw - 259 4. Rick Crutchfield - 251 - $25 5. Courtney Smith - 240 6. Steve McBride - 228 7. Doug Smith - 225 8. Mick Holtsclaw - 123 (Handling) 9. Joe Matthews - 87 (Chassis damage) 10. Robert Hoskins - 40 (Chassis damage) (Best Appearing)
I finished 3rd in this race, but, as stated before the event, no matter what position I finish in, I take no money. It tranfers to the next driver in line. That's why Rick got the $25 3rd place prize.
It was a nail biter near the end. James, up by about 4 laps, broke a guide with 10 secs to go in the 9th heat. Bobby was coming hard but James made no mistakes in the final heat and Bobby came up just short!
All the races were close and exciting! Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I am glad we could put on this great event for you guys.
A special thanks to Carquest Auto Parts of Johnson City, TN for the sponsorship, without them it would not have been possible. It's really good when a company will step up and help our sport. We need all the attention we can get. Please take a few mins in the next few days and give them a call, (423-262-0280) let them know you appreciate their support. Maybe we can do this again in the spring!
We also need to thank Mick Holtsclaw, Catch-22 Motorsports. He donated a $120 Snap-on tools jacket, and 2 $10 trackbucks coupons! He is a big supporter of East Tenn Model Raceway and slotracing in general.
Also, a big thank you to Rick Bennardo at R-Geo products for Samurai NASCAR chassis kit.
HRE donated an $80 Snap-on tools pit crew shirt that went to the driver that completed the most laps in all 3 races combined. Bobby Robinson edged out Rick Crutchfield by 10 laps to win the prize!
The final tally is as follows:
Bobby Robinson - $450 - $250 cash $200 in prizes Rick Crutchfield - $250 cash James Merriman - $250 cash Joe Matthews - $90 - $50 cash - $40 in prizes Fred Heffinger - $10 trackbucks Every driver got a Carquest hat, and a few got some extra hats
Total payout over $1100 in cash and prizes!
I know some slot car gurus hate the fact of money races. In fact, in some circumstances, so do I. This race was more about giving back to racers in a bad economy, not to bring out the bloodthirsty cheaters and bad attitudes. We did not have one racer complain or get mad over anything. Thanks to the racers for having great attitudes (other that James' universe getting turned upside down for the sit outs in Can-Am coming in on black instead of red! , he will get it!), and not wanting to kill someone over a little mistake. It all went really well, and I think we moved things along quickly and kept everyone happy. Hope to see you guys again soon! Thanks

For all you racers who missed this event, you really missed a fun day. Every racer there had a great time. NOBODY complained about track calls or turn marshals. I couldn't believe it. I have raced at a lot of raceways and have never seen everyone having that much fun racing and even experienced racers helping some newbies. Way to go Crash, you won a friend with all the attention and help you showed John. I can't wait til I get to go back to East Tn Raceway and race with the best bunch of guys. Also Roger has to be the best promoter of slot car racing in this country. To be able to get a company to ante up that amount of cash for a slot car race is unheard of. Thanks also to Chris Lowery ( Roger's partner) Susan & Angelina Holtsclaw for lunch and race directing and Barney for helping out racers. Thanks again to you all, Rick.
